Hi, I'm Jorey Winmill, founder of BroCity Construction.

I was born and raised in Rupert, Idaho, where hard work wasn't something you talked about, it was simply a way of life.

One of my favorite stories comes from my mom. She loves telling people that when I was only six years old, I was already driving the backhoe and tractors, helping my dad stack hay bales. She definitely tells the story better than I do, but I think it says a lot about how I was raised. Looking back, that's where my work ethic began.

My dad later started a construction company with nothing more than a welder and a dream. I grew up in that business, learning every chance I got. I wasn't just watching from the sidelines. I was working alongside him, gaining experience in construction, welding, problem-solving, and eventually helping manage projects and the company itself. Those years shaped who I am today.

When I was 26 years old, I decided it was time to leave Rupert and challenge myself. I remember the day like it was yesterday April 15, 2020. I called one of my best friends, Nick Salvi, and told him I was packing a bag and heading to Portland, Oregon. Without a second thought, he said, "Come live with me." That simple act of kindness gave me the opportunity to start a new chapter.

Moving from small town Idaho to Portland was a huge change. It was exciting, uncomfortable, and definitely an interesting place to live. Within a month of moving there, I bought a small welding business. It wasn't much just one welder, a couple of grinders, and a handful of tools but it reminded me so much of how my dad had started his company years earlier. Looking back, it almost feels like history repeating itself.

While living in Portland's Rose City neighborhood, the name BroCity was born. At first, I imagined building a company with my brother in law and my friend Nick, so the name just fit. Over time, it came to mean much more than that. Today, BroCity represents the family we've built within our team. We work hard together, have each other's backs, and take pride in everything we build.

Eventually, I made the decision to move back home to Rupert and expand BroCity into construction. It took off faster than I ever imagined.

The journey hasn't always been easy. Running a business has humbled me more times than I can count. I've made mistakes, learned expensive lessons, and continue learning every single day. Business isn't for everyone. It demands sacrifice, resilience, and the willingness to keep pushing forward, even when things don't go according to plan.

For years, I've averaged around 60+ hours a week. My family would probably tell you that's a conservative estimate. Building something from the ground up takes a lot of time and commitment, but I've never been afraid of hard work.

I also have to give a huge thank you to my girlfriend, Ashley. She has stood beside me through some incredible highs and some very difficult lows both in life and in business. She's been my biggest supporter, has helped me in more ways than I can count, and continues to work hard alongside me at BroCity.

I honestly don't know how she's put up with me this long, but I'm incredibly thankful she has. Thank you for believing in me and building this journey with me.

Business growth through team work

As proud as I am of what we've accomplished, I know I haven't done it alone.

I'm incredibly grateful for the team that stands beside me every day. Their dedication, craftsmanship, and loyalty are what make BroCity what it is.

I also owe so much to my mom and dad. They have supported me throughout my entire life, encouraged me when things were tough, celebrated the wins, and helped me become the man and business owner I am today. I truly wouldn't be where I am without them, and I feel incredibly blessed to have them as my parents.

The reason I continue building BroCity isn't simply to grow a successful company.

My vision is to create a business that provides stable careers, supports families, and gives hardworking people opportunities to build a better future. I want to build something that becomes a part of the communities we live in... a name that people recognize and are proud to see on a project.

Years from now, I want people to drive past a building, a project, or something we helped create and say, "BroCity built that." I want our work to leave a lasting mark on the cities and communities we have the privilege of working in.

But even more than the work itself, I want BroCity to give back.

I was very fortunate growing up. There were people who helped me, encouraged me, taught me, and gave me opportunities. A lot of what I have today is because someone was willing to invest their time, knowledge, or resources into me. One of my biggest goals in life is to eventually be able to do the same for other people. Whether it is on a large scale or simply helping one person who needs a hand, I want to make a difference. I want BroCity to be a company that doesn't just take from the communities we work in, but gives back to them and helps make them better.

One of my biggest dreams is to someday build a bike park somewhere close to our community. I want to create a place where kids can get outside, have fun, meet people, and find something positive to put their time and energy into without it costing a fortune. I believe having opportunities like that can make a real difference in a young person's life.

And it wouldn't just be for kids. I envision a park for everyone... from little kids learning on training wheels, all the way to experienced riders looking for challenging jumps and pro-level sections. Honestly, I want to build some jumps that I wish I could have ridden growing up.

I don't think there are enough affordable things for people to do in our area, especially for kids and families who don't have a lot of money to spend. I want to help change that.

I want to build things that last, but I also want to build opportunities, relationships, and a better community. I want people to look back years from now and know that BroCity wasn't just a construction company. We were a company that cared about where we came from, cared about the people around us, and did everything we could to leave things better than we found them.

Nothing makes me prouder than watching a project go from an empty piece of ground to something that will serve people for years to come. Knowing our team built it with our own hands is one of the most rewarding feelings there is.

That's the kind of legacy I want BroCity to have.

When I'm not working, you'll usually find me with my chocolate Lab, Darla. She goes just about everywhere she can with me and has become a pretty important part of my life. I also love traveling with Ashley & our other two dogs Elli and Naomi, and spending as much time outdoors as possible. Whether it's mountain biking, fishing, snowboarding, longboarding, or chasing the next adventure, I enjoy anything that gets my heart racing.

At the end of the day, my goal is to simply build things the right way, give every project my full effort, treat people honestly, and leave every customer feeling confident they chose the right company.
